Amrita Prannoy as aka Amrita Varshini is the daughter of a famous Indian businessman Tarungiri Maruthi Rao. She married a Dalit boy named Pranay Kumar, against the wishes of their families.
She rose to prominence after the murder of Perumalla Pranay Kumar by her father in 2018. At that time, Amrita was pregnant with Perumalla’s child and she gave birth to their son exactly on their wedding day.
After her husband’s death, she created the Facebook group “Justice for Prannoy” and people around the world rallied in her support. Amrita’s father Tarungiri Maruthi Rao was found dead at a communal guest house in Hyderabad. During the post-mortem, investigators found that the death was a suicide. Currently, Amrita runs an online business called Pranam where you can shop for stylish clothes.
